As the second fastest growing county in the state of Texas and the ninth fastest growing county in the nation, Williamson County faced a significant increase in the number of transactions its Tax Office had to process. What’s more, the Office’s budget had not kept up with the growth, leaving Jeff Thiel, systems manager, Deborah Hunt, tax assessor/collector, and Larry Gaddes, chief deputy tax assessor/collector, to find a cost-effective way to do more with less. In order to make this happen they decided to take a close look at one of the most labor intensive and repetitive processes in the payment system—applying payments received in the mail to taxpayer accounts which represents approximately 60,000 to 65,000 accounts, or one-third of the Office’s payment transactions. The solution: create an application for importing payments and integrate it with the County’s current remittance processing system (RPS).
