Dev Ops Engineer, Transportation Solutions

The Development Operations (DevOps) Engineer is responsible for researching, designing, building, testing and maintaining tools and utilities needed to support Tyler Transportation’s cloud hosting environment.

  • Develop programs, tools, utilities and processes that increase efficiencies for hosting software built by the Transportation division.
  • Define standard cloud-based server configurations that economically and reliably host a custom software platform, using a modular approach that makes it easy to scale with customer demand
  • Utilize new technologies and tools to modify products and provide integration with applications developed internally and externally.
  • Build and deliver tools that empower other teams to easily interact, within security guidelines, with the product hosting environments
  • Develop and implement automation scripts to deploy new server configurations in a repeatable and reliable process
  • Develop and implement monitoring and logging schemes for all application elements to ensure that DevOps catches, and in most cases, resolves issues before customers are aware of the problems
  • Collaborate with development and external client IT teams to consult on server configurations, batch processing, version control, security, data backup requirements and other aspects of the product deployment and operations process to make it easy to release and reliably operate products
  • Perform other administrative/DevOps/Support duties as needed to ensure stability and reliability of the application(s).
  • Manage Cloud Hosting provider relationships, such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure including account management, cloud service, resource and related license administration and management.
  • Create extensive project documentation including white papers, training materials, management reports, installation notes and user documentation.
  • Monitor SLAs, taking action as needed to maintain compliance.
  • Up-to 25 % Travel anticipated.
  • May be on-call outside of normal business hours


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area of study or comparable experience.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of IT experience in managing hosted applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of disaster recovery and high availability.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-based server and network architectures, including setup and management of firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, VPCs, database server instances, and web servers.
  • Strong Knowledge of applications architecture, computer operating systems, computer network hardware, systems design, application performance and tuning, and network application analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of scripting languages such as Python and PowerShell
  • Experience with Team Foundation Server (TFS) and Visual Studio.
  • Knowledge of Cloud computing platforms such as Azure and AWS
  • Knowledge of container services such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of .NET web application setup.
  • Knowledge of Serverless computing
  • Knowledge of Message Bus/Queue infrastructure
  • Knowledge of Octopus Deploy
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent project management and change management skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Database experience a plus.
