Senior Conversion Engineer

The Senior Conversion Engineer performs data conversions from one or more source systems into our industry-leading application. The main objective of this position is to use data analysis and SQL skills to provide high-quality converted data that functions well for our clients into the future.

  • Design, develop, and execute packages to convert client data using stored procedures, functions, and SQL scripts in a Microsoft SQL Server environment
  • Learn, use, and maintain an established set of internal tools and other technologies as necessary
  • Collaborate with project management and business analysts to develop data conversion packages that meet client business rules
  • Perform complex data analysis to identify patterns and anomalies
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of conversion logic
  • Create and update conversion logic to resolve client issues in test and production environments
  • Engage in query performance tuning
  • Design, implement, and maintain new and existing database objects including tables, indexes, constraints, stored procedures, and user-defined functions in support of data conversion utilities and projects
  • Mentor conversion Developers and Associate Conversion Developers
  • Tune and optimize database objects, queries, and scripts for speed and efficiency in support of data conversion, conversion utilities, and various data-related projects
  • Perform SQL Server administration activities (backup, restore, DBCC commands, indexing, shrink)
  • Stay current with Microsoft SQL Server and database technologies
  • Assist with code reviews
  • Perform project data mapping
  • Be the conversion point person for project communications
  • Lead and facilitate training including informal internal training and new employee training
  • Serve as a resource and expert for Conversion Developers
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field or relevant work experience
  • Ability to work well within deadline-oriented development structure
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team environment
  • Strong technical abilities and desire to learn new things
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication skill, teamwork and customer service skills
  • Technical knowledge and experience requirements:
    • Proficiently use SQL Server Management Studio 2008 R2 and 2012
    • Write and maintain stored procedures and functions
    • Use aggregate functions in SQL
    • Create and maintain complex queries in SQL Server
    • Understand and use database schemas, tables, relationships, and constraints
    • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot conversion packages using SQL Server Business Intelligence Design Studio
  • Understand basic performance enhancement techniques
  • Ability to write reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is a plus
  • Development experience with the .NET Framework is a plus
  • Application development experience is a plus
