Instructional Designer, Public Safety Solution

The Instructional Designer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, coordination, and facilitation of company training and development programs. He or she will assist in creating new training materials and e-learning content.

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with support, development, implementation and other management teams to identify and coordinate subject matter experts to develop and deliver educational content.
  • Deliver training programs as needed that are developed for team members and ensure that new employees are provided the tools and information to be successful.
  • Facilitate learning through a variety of delivery methods including classroom instruction, virtual training, and e-learning creation.
  • Work to ensure that educational content is delivered to meet multiple learning styles for both local and remote staff.
  • Leverage Tyler’s Learning Management System, Tyler University, as a primary tool to deliver, track and manage various educational tracks and individual progress for Tyler staff.
  • Schedule and coordinate classroom training with Managers and Supervisors – schedule locations, date/time, materials, and attendance.
  • Collect, compile and report results of evaluation, attendance and training data.
  • Organize, develop or source training programs to meet specific training needs.
  • Research training suppliers and materials as needed – including details, cost comparison, and timelines.
  • Order supplies for training and training department as needed.
  • Provide train-the-trainer sessions for internal subject matter experts.
  • Prepare reports as assigned.
  • Prepare and conduct initial training for any new processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


  • B.S./B.A. Degree with at least 3 years related experience in a training environment.
  • Previous Public Safety experience is required.
  • Leadership skills to effectively direct employees while in a training class environment and ability to properly evaluate comprehension and application of subject material.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and virtual training and facilitation tools.
  • Ability to be a positive, professional, team-oriented leader that fosters good morale and inter-departmental collaboration for staff development.
  • Prior experience with e-Learning content creation is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with all levels of employees .
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary to produce and deliver quality training programs
  • Knowledge of Windows, Power Point, Word and Excel or similar programs required.
  • High-level of effective interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal plus organization and presentation skills Possess excellent time management skills to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced, technical environment.
  • Some travel required and valid driver’s license required.
