Public Sector Experience: Marsha’s extensive background encompasses more than 35 years in customer relations and public information. Beginning in 1986, Marsha served in a student information system role for 15 years with a growing public school district in Missouri.

What experience did you have with Tyler products as a user?
“My work experience in the central office as payroll and benefits coordinator taught me a great deal about how a school district operates as an entity:  school fund accounting, bond issues, state reporting, public school retirement annual audits and so forth.

Additionally, I worked as the school information system (SIS) coordinator, responsible for data collection and staff training.   I cashiered in lunch lines, set up grade books and trained teachers, worked with principals on discipline, assisted counselors with transcripts, helped secretaries process report cards, ran average daily attendance reports and helped with all the other things that site-level school staff do during a school year.”

How did you make the transition to Tyler?
“Our district was part of a small group of clients who piloted the Tyler SIS financial product known as SISFin.  Nick Botonis, president of Tyler’s SIS Solutions, which is now a part of our School Division, was heavily involved in the project and we often worked directly with him. I did a little contract training for Tyler, then, a few years later, received a phone call from Nick.  He needed a trainer and was looking for someone with school experience.  I was ready for a change and saw this as an opportunity to use my school-based knowledge in a new way.”

How does your public sector experience benefit Tyler’s clients?
“Every day I am grateful for my school work experience.  That background has allowed me to train at a more effective level.  I teach not only the mechanics of how to execute a function, but I also have the insight to teach how to apply the function to a worker’s daily routines.  My street-smart work experience is the value I bring to our clients.”
