Software Development & Research

Your Background: I started my career as an associate developer, solving defects to learn the product. I had the ability to produce high output, but the quality piece was lacking. Attaining high-quality work along with quick turnarounds on defects was an important goal I set for myself. To achieve growth in both my personal and professional development, I became accountable by taking ownership and pride of the issues I was assigned. If a feature was broken, I was responsible for providing a resolution, and the outcome was rewarding. In my free time, I began coding more, taking tutorials, watching Pluralsight videos, and observed how other companies in the industry operated. As my confidence and abilities grew, my role expanded. I worked hard to improve myself and spent time practicing my trade outside of the office to bring value to the organization.

Best Thing About Working at Tyler: I am a task-oriented person (I like checking boxes), and I enjoy helping people who are willing to learn. Designing new products and seeing it come together is exciting. I work with a great team and enjoy solving these problems in a collaborative manner. It is a good balance of give and take, as we always end up learning from one another.

Advice for a New Employee: I think some key traits are empathy, flexibility, and communication. Understanding each person's goals and motivations is essential to creating a comfortable working relationship with your co-workers. Communication is imperative; status of tasks and the expected outcomes should always be clear.
