White Paper: Data Governance Guide for Public Sector CIOs

Across agencies, within agencies, and even between peers, CIOs need to empower data users while also protecting the contents of the data. Data governance can be viewed in two lenses in the public sector:

  • Enablement. Both internal and external stakeholders can gain access to data to lead programs, impact policy, and, in general, put data to work.
  • Risk mitigation. The organization, technology, and diligence to control who accesses what kind of data, including when and how.

Data governance led by a public sector CIO must bridge the gap between enablement and risk mitigation.
