AI & The Court Leader Imperative: Solving Equitable Problems

Many jurisdictions are feeling inundated by the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence (AI) landscape. As a result, leaders feel the responsibility to act and implement AI in court workflows. The most important consideration often underestimated as we enter this mature era of AI is that it is not just a solution; it is meant to solve a problem.

Hosted by the National Center for State Courts (NCSC), this 2024 recorded Court Technology Conference (CTC) keynote features Brian McGrath, Courts & Justice president, as he encourages courts leaders to act responsibly yet innovatively when operationalizing the power of AI.

With cybersecurity pressures and birth rate peak effects in tow for courts for the foreseeable future, McGrath emphasizes how AI should be approached by solving equitable problems that already exist. AI is an augmenter – not a replacement – meant to enhance existing processes, work, and people.

When court leaders view AI through this lens, they are not radically changing business processes. Instead, they are analyzing their problem set to apply AI strategically and deliver confident results.
