Data Transforms Virginia Transportation Improvement Plan

Creating an annual program of projects is too time-consuming and complex for the end result to be a static document. Data is immediately out of date and the static nature limits analysis of the information it contains.

In this video, Transit Programs Manager Patrice Strachan describes how Virginia’s Department of Rail & Public Transportation (DRPT) leveraged Tyler’s Enterprise Data Platform to transform their annual Six-Year Improvement Plan (“SYIP”) and the underlying data into an interactive, web-accessible, up-to-date resource. The organization won a 2022 Tyler Excellence Award for their work.

DRPT staff now benefit from access, discovery, and collaboration around de-siloed and governed API-enabled data which reduces the burden of wrangling rolling data. The Enterprise Data Platform provides tools to build reports, conduct analysis, and derive insights. The new solution gives both internal and external users visibility into projects funded by Virginia tax dollars. The project also lays the groundwork for increased interagency collaboration and the application of a single, highly flexible platform to address multiple complex use cases within the transportation sector.
