2025 VSO Excellence Award Winner: Cass County

The Cass County Veterans Service Office in North Dakota serves one of the largest veteran populations in the state, and their commitment to proactive community engagement is exceptional. For the second straight year, the Cass County team proved the profound impact of dedicated, face-to-face service by hosting their annual Stand Down event in Fargo. Their success in connecting with veterans who had previously been outside the VA system earned them Tyler’s 2025 VSO Excellence Award for Exceptional Outreach.
Measurable Growth and Critical Connections
Held on September 11, 2025, the Stand Down event was more than just a resource fair; it was a critical lifeline. The event provided direct access to VA enrollment, benefits counseling, housing support, and employment resources.
The impact was undeniable. Over 300 attendees received crucial support, including 185 veterans and their dependents. Additionally, the office saw a remarkable 38% growth in veteran turnout compared to the previous year. Lastly, there was a notable increase in attendees from younger generations who often hesitate to reach out for support.
The event’s greatest success was connecting 15 previously disconnected veterans with VA services, ensuring they could finally access the benefits and care they had earned.

For many veterans struggling with housing instability, isolation, or complex health issues, the event is the one time a year they feel supported and connected. The Cass County VSO serves as a trusted advocate and guide, helping individuals navigate the complex system of care.
The rising turnout demonstrates trust and proves that veterans see the Cass County VSO team as a committed advocate and guide, working to break down barriers and ensure that no veteran in the community is left behind.
