Client Profile: The Nevada Department of Public Safety — Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) is located in Carson City, Nevada, the state capital and a bustling town known for its rich mining heritage and close proximity to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada range. Established in 1970, the OTS serves law enforcement agencies statewide and operates with a mission of eliminating deaths and injuries on Nevada’s roadways.
Challenge
For years, Nevada’s law enforcement agencies relied on a clunky, outdated statewide data repository that made traffic reporting and recordkeeping inefficient and time-consuming. The legacy records management system hindered collaboration and transparency among agencies and court systems. The lack of a unified and accessible resource for traffic and crash reporting created inconsistencies that disrupted processes and prevented agencies and stakeholders from fully leveraging their data.
Solution
To overcome these hurdles, the Office of Traffic Safety created a long-term initiative to consolidate crash reports and citations through a statewide implementation of Tyler Technologies’ Enforcement Mobile solution. This project aimed to seamlessly transition agencies into a unified crash report and citation system, empowering them to collaborate more effectively and harness the full potential of shared data.
Having a single statewide system for eCrashes and eCitations promotes uniformity as well as collaboration between agencies.

Results
In the span of 14 years, more than 45 law enforcement agencies in Nevada were migrated onto a single, user-friendly traffic and crash reporting platform with access to near real-time data.
A statewide deployment of the cloud-hosted traffic solution resulted in several notable benefits for agencies, which included:
Improved Security and Compliance
With Enforcement Mobile, the OTS created a more secure environment for Nevada’s crash and citation data, providing the redundancy necessary for statutorily required data safety. It also increased data-sharing capabilities for the state, resulting in improved communication with lawmakers and state officials while also making mandated changes easier to navigate with fewer moving parts.
Streamlined Data Exchange with Local Courts and Jurisdictions
With a centralized system for crash reports and citations, law enforcement agencies in Nevada are able to share information more seamlessly with local courts and jurisdictions.
Instead of having to pull information from multiple systems, agencies and courts can retrieve information from a single source of truth. The statewide traffic data repository eliminated extra steps between law enforcement and the justice system, supporting more timely and accurate enforcement.
Enhanced Data Functionality
The use of a single statewide database has significantly enhanced data analysis capabilities for agencies in Nevada, unlocking greater insights and empowering them to make stronger, better-informed decisions. Having access to data that can be queried in real-time from any location provided agencies with greater visibility to vital information, enabling them to identify roadway trends and answer complex questions about crashes, including incident history and vehicle issues. These trends can be further analyzed to develop powerful data-driven enforcement and improvement efforts that help keep roadways safe.
Stakeholder Data Transparency
Nevada is now able to meet the growing demand for real-time data among a broad range of public stakeholders with a statewide implementation of Enforcement Mobile. With ready access to near real-time crash and citation data, the OTS is able to transparently provide stakeholders with vital information that empowers them to make informed decisions.
Increased Collaboration and Operational Efficiency
With the implementation of a uniform records system, traffic operations in Nevada went from scattered to streamlined.
Previously, officers faced communication obstacles when working without a methodical and well-organized records framework. Now, officers are able to collaborate on traffic incidents or crashes from anywhere, on any device.
Mobile citation software has also eliminated the use of paper forms, reducing roadside time for officers. These operational advancements have enabled law enforcement agencies in Nevada to provide faster, more efficient services to their local courts and communities.
