Responsibilities

  • Provide decisive and effective technical leadership for all software development efforts. 
  • Align software engineering priorities to business goals
  • Clearly and consistently communicate product and business vision to the engineering organization. Guide the engineering organization's efforts to achieve this vision
  • Ensure departmental decisions such as staffing, development, and organization, are in line with the organization’s business plan and vision
  • Implement best practices, and continuous process improvement via establishing/measuring key performance indicators and tracking mechanisms
  • Establish, communicate, and implement engineering and development policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations
  • Drive development teams to consistently improve cycle time and time to market
  • Accountable for completion of product / software development to meet market windows of opportunity
  • Lead the development organization in the efficient, on-time delivery of high-quality software products and tools
  • Ensure that projects are completed within budget and in an economical manner
  • Prioritize and allocate projects and resources in collaboration with product stakeholders, leaders and clients, always keeping in mind overall product vision and an ROI mentality
  • Oversee projects across functions to ensure technical/functional solutions are well-integrated, comply with technical strategy, comply with product strategy, and meet or exceed customer requirements
  • Balance the continuous maintenance of our existing products with the injection of new technologies for the betterment of the suite
  • Provide technical, functional, and strategic leadership for applications development across all products
  • Participate in strategic decisions about the technology, definition, and implementation of enterprise software products
  • Ability and willingness to make tough calls and, if necessary, take tough actions to further the business
  • Recruit, develop, and retain individuals with skills, attitude, and experience necessary to enable the organization to meet commitments
  • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations
  • Coach and mentor direct reports
  • Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • BS or MS/MBA degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business and/or equivalent formal training or work experience
  • 10+ years of senior management experience within a software company
  • Experience leading development of complex software architectures and platforms  
  • Experience leading and managing development activity for enterprise level applications  
  • Proven leadership in organizations of at least 220 staff members
  • Proven ability to lead projects across multiple vintages of technology, to include application maintenance, modernization, and innovation
  • Ability to work well and productively, always projecting a positive outlook in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment  
  • Ability to balance and effectively deliver contractually obligated custom development alongside new investments
  • Strong situational leadership instincts and abilities 
  • Ability to anticipate roadblocks, diagnose problems and generate effective solutions  
  • Working understanding of Tyler’s portfolio of products a plus
  • ERP software industry experience and/or mobile software industry experience strongly desired
  • Knowledgeable about industry trends, best practices, and change management
  • Proactive & creative problem-solving skills and ability to evaluate options, analyze complex problems, present possible solutions in a simple, easily understood manner
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of development process and methodologies
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of product architecture and technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with other departments and have client interactions
  • Demonstrated organization and planning ability
  • Powerful problem-solving, risk assessment and negotiation skills  
  • Willing and able to dive deep into the details if necessary
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, teamwork, and customer service



State-Specific Salary Range Disclosure Requirements

Salary will generally fall between $125,000 - $200,000 before adjustment for geographic differences. Recruiter can confirm if position is incentive eligible.
