Tyler Technologies is seeking a Database Administrator who will be working with a DBA team and will be responsible for supporting Microsoft SQL 2012 - SQL 2019 and Oracle 11g+ solutions including RAC. The Database Administrator will also partner with technical groups to ensure that database performance is not hindered, and performance standards adhere to service level agreements set with the enterprise.

This position will be a part of Tyler's successful Software as a Service (SaaS) team, providing hosting solutions to our public sector software clients nationwide.

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility is implementing, maintaining, and supporting Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases in a 24/7 highly active environment.
  • Maintain current database architecture and identify areas where technical debt, performance tuning, and system stability improvements can be made.
  • Plan, architect and maintain Microsoft SQL and Oracle database backup and recovery solutions alongside the backup team.
  • Design/Architect, Manage and monitor highly available database services and maintenance plans in a Software as a Service (SaaS) environment.
  • Installing and maintaining SQL Server database systems. Maintaining the database systems includes but is not limited to ensuring successful backups, resolving system issues, opening cases with technical support to resolve issues, monitoring success and failure of automated jobs, monitor system availability, updating system documentation, system and database recovery, etc.
  • Updating database systems by reviewing, planning, testing and installing database security patches and service packs.
  • Design, document, and promote security "best practices", policies, standards and protocols.
  • Documenting and training 2nd and 3rd shift Analysts to perform basic SQL server and cluster troubleshooting
  • Working with development and systems teams to perform application and database tuning.
  • Migrating Databases to newly built servers/clusters from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2012 or 2014.
  • Assist with setting up and configuring of appropriate database and application monitoring.
  • Setup, test and maintain business continuity/disaster recovery infrastructure database and applications.
  • Providing highly available database and application infrastructure according to Business Continuity requirements using SQL clustering and availability groups.
  • Evaluating data modeling, database administration, and database backup and recovery tools and make recommendations.
  • Setting up and monitoring transactional replication, Database mirroring on Production and QA servers.
  • Set up and configure Active-Active, Active-Passive Cluster environment as a High availability solution.
  • Tuning queries which are running slow using Profiler and Statistics I/O by using different Methods in terms of evaluating joins, indexes, updating Statistics and code modifications.
  • Monitor and modify performance using execution plans and index tuning.
  • Prepare documentation for the Disaster Recovery plan.
  • Perform routine DBA activities, such as setting user's permissions and resolving space issues on Production and lower environments as well as configuring maintenance plans.
  • Refresh data in QA-Test environments for testing of new builds and deployments.
  • Maintain inventory of all hosted databases and database environments to assist in planning, reporting and licensing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer technology or comparable work experience.
  • Five or more years’ experience designing, developing, deploying and supporting backend solutions.
  • Five or more years’ experience with virtualized database servers with strong understanding of virtualized storage as it pertains to database health.
  • Seven or more years’ experience administering Microsoft SQL databases.
  • Working knowledge with maintaining Oracle databases including RAC.
  • Strong Working knowledge in performance analysis, tuning, and capacity analysis of data layer and database components.
  • Troubleshooting experience with Windows, Linux, Tomcat, Storage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

The ideal candidate will have experience performance tuning database instances, have experience designing, implementing and supporting highly available multi-instance/multi-schema database servers, and experience working with software developers addressing problematic queries.
