When you are an SDET at Tyler Technologies, providing Socrata solutions, you are a vital part of the team building products that can make a difference in our world. Automation enthusiasts who will create test automation, get involved with release management, and never shy away from manual testing are champions to us. This work requires you to understand our products and our people. Applying great pragmatism and deep organization, you dive in, test, review, re-test, discuss, challenge the status quo, smile, document what you have done, and do it all again. Your ability to independently communicate with coworkers in both engineering and product management will make you a highly effective member of the team.




More than anything, to be great as our next SDET, you need to…

...have great people skills.  This means you’d rather ask a question of the wrong person rather than not ask at all. You are also great at collaborating with tools like Slack and you can write well, communicating your thoughts clearly and with an understanding of your audience.

...use all of your talents to ensure we build the thing we said we were going to build.

...bring your own ideas and suggestions about the role and testing processes to the team. Someone who quickly builds a sense of ownership and strong, thoughtful opinions about ways we could work better is going to be wildly successful here!

...apply rigorous thinking to make sure that the thing we said we were going to build is something the customer can actually use. about the work you are doing and the health of the product you are working on - there is no substitute for this. This is about devotion to great products. This is a deeply important part of our work.

...have a thorough understanding of our products from a user perspective. You can put yourself in the user’s chair and experience our products like them; this is vital for user acceptance testing. comfortable hunting down your own requirements if/when they aren’t handed to you. Don’t wait to be given everything; innovate, like the amazing engineer you are! 


On a purely technical level, here is the ubiquitous list...we try and keep it clear and not ridiculously long and exhausting to read. You should be comfortable with, or at least have a willingness to learn:
  • Experience writing and maintaining automated tests (our test suite is written in Ruby and uses RSpec/Capybara/Selenium)
  • One or more programming language - Ruby/Python is a bonus
  • Bash, zsh, or other similar Unix command line tool
  • Git/GitHub
  •  HTTP protocol and familiarity with REST APIs (and clients for testing ie: cURL or Postman)
  • Black box testingYour favorite browsers JS console
  • Writing test plans that other team members can follow
  • Manual testing, if the situation calls for it

Bonus points if you have familiarity with:
  • Selenium
  • Capybara
  • RSpec
  • Familiarity with CI tools (we happen to use Jenkins)
  • Performance/load testing
  • SQL and/or No-SQL
  • Grey box, white box testing

State Specific Salary Range Disclosure Requirements for Colorado, Connecticut, and Nevada

Salary will generally fall between $95,000 - $105,000 before adjustment for geographic differences. Recruiter can confirm if position is incentive eligible.
