...have great people skills. This means you can get up off your seat and TALK to people (this may seem trivial, but it’s really important). You are also great at collaborating with tools like Slack and you can write well and communicate your thoughts clearly and with an understanding of your audience. 

...use all of your talents to ensure we build the thing we said we were going to build. 

...apply rigorous thinking to make sure that the thing we said we were going to build is something the customer can actually use. about the work you are doing and the health of the product you are working on - there is no substitute for this. This is about devotion to great products. This is a deeply important part  of our work. 

...have a thorough understanding of our products from a user perspective. You can put yourself in the user’s chair and experience our products like them; this is vital for user acceptance testing. comfortable hunting down your own requirements if/when they aren’t handed to you. Don’t wait to be given everything; innovate, like the amazing engineer you are! 

This position is about performing “black box” testing, release management, manual testing, filing awesome bug reports, as well as coding to write automated tests. 


On a purely technical level, here is the ubiquitous list...we try and keep it clear and not ridiculously long and exhausting to read. You should be familiar with, or at least have a willingness to learn: 

  • Experience writing and maintaining automated tests (our test suite is written in Ruby and uses RSpec/Capybara/Selenium)  
  • Git/GitHub  
  • SQL and/or No-SQL  
  •  Proficient in at least one programming language (Ruby/Python is a bonus)  
  •  Bash/comfortable on a Unix command line  
  •  Selenium  
  •  Capybara  
  •  RSpec  
  •  Familiarity with CI tools (we happen to use Jenkins)  
  •  HTTP protocol and familiarity with REST APIs (and clients for testing ie: cURL or Postman)  
  •  Performance/load testing  
  •  Grey box, white box testing  
  •  JS browser console  
  •  Test methodologies  
  •  Comfortable writing test plans and doing a certain amount of manual testing
