Tyler Technologies is looking for an innovative, talented, and passionate technology leader to join our team and help build the next generation of industry-leading Public Safety solutions.  The Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading engineering teams in designing and developing solutions that will be used directly by first responders to save time and optimize their daily activities. 

As a people manager, you understand that the best managers serve their teams, removing roadblocks and giving individual contributors autonomy and ownership.  You can effectively partner with product management, technical leads, and stakeholders across the company to deliver impactful solutions.  You are data-driven and comfortable with agile development practices, rapid development cadences, and continuous deployment methodologies to deliver quick incremental value to customers.  

The position can be remote or based at our office in Troy, Michigan.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple engineering teams and create a safe environment for a diverse team.
  • Maintain a high-performance culture based on trust and teamwork, where team members demonstrate a strong sense of ownership.
  • Conduct 1:1s regularly and give frequent, actionable feedback to support your team’s career growth.
  • Attract, retain, and develop talent to join our world class software engineering teams.
  • Inspire your team to develop technical strategy by facilitating technical conversations and removing roadblocks.
  • Improve operations by conducting systems analysis, recommending changes in policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with other product team members (UX, engineering, product management) to achieve business goals.
  • Stay on the leading edge of technology and engineering practices
  • Understand business needs and know how to create solutions to manage them

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of industry experience working with large scale engineering systems and working across multiple teams.
  • Experience and prior success as an engineering lead and people manager working on challenging problems.
  • Highly collaborative, able to work across disciplines effectively with product management, user experience, operations teams, and other product engineering team members.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and team-building skills with strong business awareness and an ability to influence colleagues and executives.
  • Clear and empathetic communication with a passion for mentoring and developing engineers.
  • Ability to coach developers, helping them improve their skills and grow their careers.
  • Ability to evaluate trade-offs between short-term team needs and long-term business goals.
  • Enjoy thinking about and solving problems from the customer’s perspective.
  • Passion for new technologies and services.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Deal well with ambiguous/undefined problems; ability to think abstractly.
  • Ability to travel to Troy, Michigan on a quarterly basis (remote candidates).

State Specific Salary Range Disclosure Requirements for Colorado, Connecticut, and Nevada

Salary will generally fall between $87,281 - $150,000 before adjustment for geographic differences. Recruiter can confirm if position is incentive eligible.
