Contact Tracing for Districts
August 13, 2020 by
Prior to the onset of the pandemic, most school districts never imagined they might be tasked with finding a way to record any of the interactions between students, teachers, and district staff. Many did not envision a scenario where schools would be scrambling to develop plans to keep their communities safe from a potentially deadly illness.
The staff at Tyler feels the enormity of the weight on your shoulders this school year, and in response to your changing needs, we have developed an integrated contact tracing solution to help you log planned and actual interactions so you can report that data to county or state health commissioners in the event of a confirmed case.
Contact Tracing for Buses
Tyler’s Traversa® and Versatrans® student transportation solutions have added additional functionality for contact tracing on the bus through a recent no-cost feature release. Users can look up individual students or staff by date to find lists of all contacts on a particular run. This data can be pulled by run, by vehicle, by student or students, and by driver or drivers, meaning no matter how you learn of a potential exposure, the system gives you the flexibility to cover all bases.
In addition, if your district is one of many now using card scan tracking with Tyler Drive® or Tyler Telematic GPS™, or implementing tracking through the new Tyler Bus Attendance™ mobile app, the level of detail available to you in this report is enhanced. In addition to tracking all students and staff assigned to a run on a particular day, student and staff data is even more accurate with these integrations because it is pulled directly from ridership logs about who actually rode the bus on a particular day. This means the report reflects students who miss the bus or are on a run they typically don’t ride. This data can even be integrated with Tyler’s enhanced seating chart features to determine the physical proximity of one student to another on the bus.
Contact Tracing for Classrooms
Similarly, the Tyler SIS student information solution tracks student and staff interactions once they arrive at school using classroom attendance logs. These attendance logs list both the students and staff who are scheduled to be in a particular classroom, as well as who was actually present on a given day. Just like the transportation reports, these classroom-based contact tracing reports are designed to be easily exported and shared with necessary contacts.
Coming in mid-September, that reporting will be enhanced to include any interactions students or staff may have while dealing with a behavioral incident or a nurse’s office visit. These insights will provide an even more useful tracking capability.
Tyler Total School Integration
Additionally, for districts using both a Tyler transportation solution and Tyler SIS, one useful bus-to-classroom-to-bus report can be generated to provide simplified, combined information from the two systems on a particular date or during a date range. This unique integration stems from the breadth of administrative management technology only Tyler Technologies can offer to K-12 districts.
At Tyler, we always see ourselves as an extension of our school district clients, and we try to develop the tools we would want to solve the challenges we feel we are facing alongside you. Adding contact tracing functionality to both our transportation and student information solutions is a simple, straight-forward way to stand in solidarity with our districts. We hope you will explore these new features and reach out with any questions or suggestions about how we can continue to support you.
